Being sagitarian I like events, changes and unpredictability... Last weekend was alumni weekend, For the first time ever Sapient India came up with the Alumni meet. This meet was a reconnect between the alumni's and leadership.. It was a good show.. Was initiated by us and well organised with proper execution.. The event was run by me, as an MC.. After two long years I was on stage, anchoring a show.. I was nervous :-).. Though managed well.. I remember my college days, when I use to speak on the stage of FICCI auditorium.. anyways gone are those days, and I have present in hand.. Well to talk about the meet, it was a great experience listening about sapient and its good things from the people who are not associated with it anymore.. They talked a lot about sapient culture, which they miss.. Alumni's mentioned name of the people or team members with whom they were associated with during their tenure in Sapient .. So organisations are made by "people"....
Soon after it got over, i left for Jama Mazid to meet 'S' and his frds... it was a different experience for me to be at Jama Mazid.. its a complete different world I would say.. i really enjoyed my time having food at Karim's and the sight around in the market.. Took some interesting pics, will place it soon on my blog as well...
Sunday, Another alumni meet, the MBA batch alumni, though very less number of people turned up, however it was nice meeting few of them and touchbase on where we are after 2 years since we left our college... We met at our old favorate place - NFC, with a shorma treat, some gol gappa's, coffee at barista and finally meetha paan..
Interesting part of this meet was, discussion on salary, couple of people cribbed a lot on their current salary, since the cribbers - were from the HR domain :-), as they saw their fellow frds who opted for marketing were earning more than us... So I questioned, why is it that you want xxxxx salary... She replied, when relatives or society ask, I feel ashamed... So we dont want money for ourselves we want it - to show others... We have enough to have good food and leisure time.. I am not denying the fact to not work for good amount of salary.. but we should not get depressed for irrelevant things .... Wat say ?
So this was my last weekend, full of new experiences, small and big, interesting and strange...

Good to hear about the meet that was organized at Sapient! :) It makes me smile to see people come back and acknowledge what they miss; May be the increased packages that they now have to ‘show off’, is indeed for showing off to others and not for feeling content within themselves.
Though we all have crossed the milestone of earning what we NEED; when will we reach that stage where we realize that we need to stop somewhere?? I think as years pass by we need to change priorities…
Ultimately we all get into money loop because we all believe that we can buy more comfort with that ‘extra’ money; but trap lies in the fact that definition of comfort changes each time we increase our buying limit!
People need to change their perspective..Shouldn’t the question be “Are you happy with what you get?” rather than “How much do you get?”
Nice to hear from you Amrit... Well you rightly said, we need to change our priorities and its a trap, I would say a vicious circle and an unending desire to increas zero's in our salary... In this race we forget the bottom line, that is satisfaction, happiness.. Looks this we are yet to discover happiness...

I agree.....we should not get depressed because money is not everything, your profile, value in the job, job security and respect you are getting from your top management also play a key role..... specially when they treat you like their right/left hand and their top team is incomplete without you. But, the problem is with all the relatives and society is that they give importance to money, company (big brand names like infosys, tcs etc etc) and H1B visa a lot specially when you a single (after marriage relatives are not going to ask you about this). These kind of questions not going to depressed you until you are satisfied with your job.....if you are not happy with a job then YES this will force you to change your job. Sometimes i feel this is the reason people change their job often specially in BPO and IT. But, now i feel that this is going to change.......because
1. RECESSION PERIOD: This will teach people to stay longer in their job because people who loss their jobs are mostly newly appointed(1yr-2), people who are working long with their organisations are mostly safe.
2. Court rule: A new rule will be apllicable from april 2009 that if you working with a private company from last 5 yrs then they can not terminate you from a job, if they do they have to pay you a 6 month salary. I think after this people will start taking their private job more seriously specially youngsters.
My suggestion to everybody: Please do not give importance to money only......always think about JOB SECURITY first then money.
